About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Hamburger SV secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Union Berlin in their Bundesliga clash on Saturday, 14 February 2026. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with Hamburger SV ultimately prevailing in a tightly contested encounter. This result was somewhat unexpected given Union Berlin's recent form, but Hamburger SV capitalized on their home advantage to claim all three points. The game started with Union Berlin taking the lead in the 28th minute through Leopold Querfeld (GAP -0.4%), who found the back of the net to put the visitors ahead. However, Hamburger SV responded swiftly, with Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer (GAP -1.7%) equalizing in the 35th minute. Just before halftime, Nicolás Capaldo (GAP -1.9%) gave Hamburger SV the lead with a well-taken goal, sending them into the break with a 2-1 advantage. In the second half, both teams continued to press for goals. Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer scored his second of the match in the 82nd minute, extending Hamburger SV's lead to 3-1. Union Berlin managed to pull one back in the 89th minute through Andrej Ilić (GAP -1.5%), but it was too little, too late for the visitors. Tactically, Hamburger SV's manager made several changes during the match, bringing on Giorgi Gocholeishvili, Yussuf Poulsen, Daniel Elfadli, William Mikelbrencis, and Jean-Luc Dompe as substitutes. These changes helped maintain their intensity and secure the win. Union Berlin also made five substitutions, introducing Alex Král, Oliver Burke, Livan Burcu, András Schäfer, and Tim Skarke in an attempt to change the game's dynamics. The standout performance came from Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer, whose brace was crucial in securing the victory for Hamburger SV. His performance, along with Capaldo's contribution, highlighted the attacking prowess of the home side. This victory boosts Hamburger SV's position in the Bundesliga standings, providing them with much-needed momentum as they look to climb the table. For Union Berlin, the defeat is a setback, but they will aim to bounce back in their next fixture to maintain their competitive edge in the league.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
